Welcome to Mr. Sorden's Homepage!
I was born in Montrose, CO, and I am a native to Colorado. In 1991 we moved to Colorado Springs and I have been here ever since. I have a beautiful wife, Christy, who is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has her own counseling practice ( www.sordencounseling.com ) We have 2 beautiful children ages 8 and 6.
My hobbies include running, snow skiing, motorcycle riding, watching sports - especially the Colorado teams (Rockies, Nuggets, Avalanche, Buffalos, Rapids, Mammoth, Broncos) and hanging out with my friends and family.
Professional History and Credentials: I graduated from Widefield High School in 1997 and pursued an Associate's degree from Pikes Peak Community College. Unsure of what I wanted to be when I "grew up" I continued to work full-time to support myself. While working full time, I continued my education and obtained a Bachelor degree from University of Phoenix. I became a Fire Protection Engineer for the Colorado Springs Fire Department and moved on as an Engineer for SimplexGrinnell. While working for SimplexGrinnell, I obtained a Master degree from Regis University. I decided the fire industry was not for me and my wife was a high school counselor at the time and she suggested I substitute teach while finishing my Masters. Substitute teaching sparked my interest to become a teacher.
I spent my first year teaching at Mitchell High School during the 2005-2006 school year. As a first year teacher, I am proud to say my students nominated me for the Teaching in Excellence Diamond Award through the Rotary Club. The D11 superintendent presented me the award in May of 2006. The award proved to me that if I work hard and establish a relationship with my students, success is endless.
After my first year teaching at Mitchell High School, I accepted a position to develop a new technology curriculum at Challenger Middle School. In addition to the new Technology Curriculum, I also implemented our newest program called CHTA TV (or Broadcast Journalism) Six years later, I am still proudly teaching at Challenger and I recently finished my Principal Licensure Program and I finally finished my Doctorate in Educational Leadership and now I plan to continue my career in Administration.
In addition to teaching, we own Sensational Sounds Professional DJ Service which we started in 1999. We operate three DJ systems and employ DJs who provide music and entertainment for all occasions i.e. school dances, weddings, retirement parties, holiday parties, corporate events etc.(www.ssprodj.com) We received the Gold Award for 'Best Mobile DJ' in Colorado Springs 2011, 2012 and 2013 through the Gazette.
Philosophy about teaching /administration: I believe that by teaching we learn, and by learning we teach. Therefore, coming from a "broken home" (divorce parents), I pushed through the hard times and created a very good life for myself. I feel by establishing a good teacher/student relationship I can create a good learning environment and encourage student success.
