 Welcome to the Counseling Department

 Counseling Mission

Our Mission

The mission of the Counseling Department is to provide a warm, inviting environment where academic, career, social and emotional needs can be met to enhance growth.  The professional support team provides opportunities for students to acquire skills that will inspire a sense of pride in their ability to respond to life with honor, respect and lightness of spirit.

Our Philosophy

We believe:

  • School counselors are integral to the educational process and student growth.
  • All students are entitled access to a comprehensive counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social issues.
  • Effective school counseling is a collaborative process that involves interface and cooperation between school counselors, students, parents, teachers, administrators, community leaders, and other stakeholders.

Our counseling program will:

  • Address the developmental needs of students systemically in a manner that promotes well-being across the board.
  • Provide for mastery of skills and competencies as defined by state and national standards.
  • Align with Challenger Middle School's academic mission.
  • Initiate students' postsecondary workforce readiness by setting goals and exploring career options using the Naviance college and career readiness software.

Our counselors will:

  • Abide by the ethical standards of the American School Counselor Association.
  • Provide monthly classroom guidance lessons focused on developing individual student strengths and fostering a caring and supportive school climate.  We will use curriculum available through Rachel's Challenge and Second Step, both of which are accessible for your review in our counseling office or online at:
  • Participate in on-going professional development activities.
  • Routinely evaluate the efficacy of our program through data-focused review and provide adjustments and enhancements as needed.
